Ferns (Pteridophytes)

Cystopteris sudetica. Alpago has at least two of pteridological rarity, the Asplenium fissum (in Val Salatis) and the Cystopteris sudetica (on Cansiglio). (Photo R. Prelli)

In this case too the centre of the panel illustrates and explains the biological cycle of the Pteridophytes (Ferns, Mare’s Tail and Club Moss) in which the spore phase prevails over the gametophyte (prothallium).
The photographs show the common ferns Dryopteris filix-mas, Polypodium vulgare, Asplenium trichomanes, Asplenium ruta-muraria and the Equisetum telmateja and Equisetum arvense with brief descriptions alongside their latin names.
